The Legacy
The Legacy
In 1934, the ebullient Victor Bergeron built a cozy saloon in Oakland, California naming it Hinky Dink’s after the well-known World War I song “Hinky Dinky Parlay Vous.” After returning from his travels to Cuba and Hawaii, in 1937 Vic “The Trader” transformed Hinky Dink’s from a saloon into Trader Vic’s, a tropical retreat bedecked with various artifacts and trappings, serving simmering plates of Island-style cuisine and becoming America’s first fusion restaurant concept. With over 30 locations worldwide, Trader Vic’s legacy lives on with expertly crafted cocktails, exotic cuisines, and exceptional service, delivering a first-class experience in a tropical environment that is truly “Maita'i Roa Ae!” (Tahitian for “Out of this world – the best!”)
